Capella Capital is delighted to announce that the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ) Transmission Project has been recognised with two awards at the 2026 IJGlobal Asia Pacific Awards, held in Singapore in front of more than 300 infrastructure and energy finance leaders from across the region.
The project was named:
2026 Asia Pacific PPP Deal of the Year
2026 Transmission & Distribution Deal of the Year
The IJGlobal Awards are widely regarded as the goldstandard in peer-reviewed recognition for global infrastructure finance, with arigorous and transparent evaluation process that benchmarks transactions acrossthe entire Asia Pacific region. Winning two categories in a single night, against an exceptionally strong field of regional infrastructure deals, reflects the calibre and significance of the CWO REZ transaction.
A pathfinder project for the energy transition
The Central-West Orana REZ Transmission Project is the first competitively procured Renewable Energy Zone transmission project in Australia, and a cornerstone of the country's transition to a low-carbon economy.
Capella Capital was the financial advisor to the ACEREZ consortium, comprising ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy, which entered into a Commitment Deed with EnergyCo in December 2023 to deliver the project. Capella was intimately involved in the project's development from origination through to financial close in April 2025.
The transaction broke new ground commercially. CWO REZ pioneered a hybrid model combining the features of an availability-based public-private partnership with a regulated asset framework administered by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), delivered across a35-year concession term. There was no direct precedent in the Australian market -the financing solution was developed specifically for this transaction and is now expected to serve as the blueprint for future REZ transmission projects across the country.
Once operational in 2028, CWO REZ will deliver at least 4.5 GW of new network capacity and ultimately enable the connection of up to 7.7 GW of renewable generation, supplying electricity to more than two million homes annually and unlocking an estimated $20 billion in private investment in the region by 2030.
