A consortium comprising Capella Capital has been selected to deliver the Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project, the biggest ever public transport project in Victoria, Australia.

On July 16 the Victorian Government announced that the Cross Yarra Partnership has been selected to deliver the Metro Tunnel and five new underground stations.

The Cross Yarra Partnership comprises Lendlease Engineering, Capella Capital, John Holland and Bouygues Construction.

The project includes the construction of five new underground stations, each with its own identity as well as revitalised open space above ground at all five stations and additional entrances to reduce crowding on major streets in the CBD.

Group CEO and Managing Director of Lendlease, Steve McCann said: “Our success with Melbourne Metro is a tremendous demonstration of our integrated model in action, with the Australian businesses of Capella, Engineering, Building and Property all collaborating tirelessly to put the best of Lendlease forward.

“This win reaffirms the strength of our engineering capability, particularly in tunnelling, rail infrastructure and mechanical & electrical. We were up against some of the world’s biggest construction and engineering firms in an extensive competitive process, which underscores the significance of this result.

“The next step for us is to work towards financial close. Congratulations to everyone who has been involved in this extraordinary effort over the past 15 months.”
